Master Bedroom Reveal!

Fifteen Minutes to Flawless Master Bedroom

I’ve been so excited  to share tonight’s post with you guys! Until recently I never thought I would be sharing interior design because it wasn’t something I considered myself ‘good at’. I loved and appreciated a beautiful space, but creating one felt totally overwhelming and scary. Since we moved back in January the master bedroom has been barely furnished and 100% undecorated. I didn’t even have a bed frame after getting rid of the old Ikea one during the move…yes it was that bad.

I wanted to make it a beautiful but functional space to retreat to at the end of the day, so I finally committed to making the time and really going for it, despite a few nerves and an overall lack of time! I leaned on my girlfriend Megan who is naturally amazing at home décor. She was really helpful suggesting practical, affordable options based on the look I wanted (if you live near Charlotte and are looking help in the decorating department, check with her!). At the same time, it was important for me to be really involved and we ended up with the perfect mix.

Now that the room is done, I get a rush of calm/happy whenever I go in it…I know it’s cheesy but it’s crazy how decor can uplift the way you feel and even your overall mood!

My goal was to make the space beautiful and functional. The built in cabinet nightstand doors and storage ottoman have been so helpful in keeping the room tidy, given the amount of toys Juliana has already brought in. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Below are a few of the tips I picked up along the way that made it quicker and easier to achieve the final look:

Easy, Foolproof Decorating Tips

  1. Take a quiz to determine your decorating style and then decide more specifically what kind of feel you want for the room. For instance, I knew I liked a ‘transitional style’ and wanted the room to have a soft, bright and airy, almost ethereal feel to it. Once I knew that, it was easy to chooes a light, neutral color scheme. I even picked out these mirrored nightstands to reflect the light and brighten the space even more.
  2. Start with the basics. I purchased my dresser and bed first and found once I had those pieces it was easy to build around them with the secondary furniture pieces like nightstands, accent chair and ottoman. The last step was the strictly decorative pieces (wall mirror, clock, comforter, etc.).
  3. Pick a primary and secondary accent colors. My primary was pink and my secondary was blue. I kept the main furniture neutral so if I got tired of them later on, I could change the color scheme without changing much furniture. If you want a more colorful space over a neutral one, richly colored paintings, blankets, pillows and accent chairs in your two colors are a great way to achieve that!
  4. If you do go for a neutral color scheme though, mix in texture and patterns. I did this with the comforter, mirrored nightstands, chandelier and a richly patterned accent chair. I really love how the diamond pattern on the headboard, comforter and nightstands tie the room together and give it a cohesive feel.

I promised in this post I would share my favorite tips for shopping quality, affordable pieces, so…

3 Tips to shopping for affordable, quality furniture:

  1. Wayfair. I got my bed, nightstands, chandelier and even the faux peonies I used to decorate from Wafair (see this page my other Wayfair picks). Wayfair has sooo many great, affordable alternatives to high end pieces. I love that when I shop there it’s possible to get pieces with a designer feel without the price tag (would you believe me if I told you I got my bed+ headboard combo on sale for $228?). However, I’ve also found that not everything on the site is of equal quality, which brings me to my next tip:
  2. Find an interior design blog you love and shop their recommendations. As I shared in this post, I’m obsessed with Randi Garrett Design. The bed I got was a recommendation from her and I was SO happy with the price and quality. When you buy a dress online and it doesn’t look right, it’s a lot easier to return than furniture, so purchasing something recommended by someone I trust as an authority helped tremendously when it came down to deciding what to order. A few other interior design blogs I also love are The Pink Dream and Kate Market Interiors.
  3. Home Goods. A little tip: Home Goods can be drastically different from one store to another even in the same city. If you don’t dig the assortment in your local one it’s worth finding others and giving them a visit. I didn’t find much at the Home Goods 5 minutes from here, but the one 18 minutes away had so many things I loved, including my wall miror and all the pieces decorating the top of my dresser.

I can’t wait to hear what you guys think of this type of post. I still plan to add curtains so I’ll include some updated pictures with them when I do my full upstairs reveal. We are working on a mermaid theme next for Juliana’s room and I honestly don’t know who’s more excited about it! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Do you have any home décor projects in the works, and if so what gets you excited or is making it a challenge?

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!

XO,

Terra

Thanks so much Briana. I have to say I had no idea they would add that much to the room!
