Updated Fitness Routine and 4 Tips for Staying Motivated

Full disclosure- normally I work out with my hair UP. 😉

With our wedding getting closer and closer, fitness has been on my brain more and more.

I always told myself I wouldn’t diet or start a wild workout routine in the months leading up to the altar- and I’m glad to report to y’all that this hasn’t changed.

As I shared here, fitness is something I struggled with for YEARS. It wasn’t until discovering Pure Barre Lake Norman in 2015 I finally got into a shape I was truly proud of. What I learned through my own little journey is that when I worry or dwell over my weight or size. I’m 1 unhappy, and 2 the scale stays the same or goes up!

This taught me if I want to take my fitness up a notch I need to first love and accept who I am TODAY, then think positively and proactively about adjustments for tomorrow.

Ok, ok I know what you’re thinking- “Terra, you’re tiny! WHAT are you talking about?!”

I get it. Lots of gals could look at me and think I was in great shape but to be 100% honest fashion blogging can have an unhealthy way of skewing body image. Every time I open Instagram I find myself face to face with an endless scroll of teeny tiny bodies.

Maintaining a healthy body image isn’t something gifted once we get down to a certain size- quite the opposite! It’s something most of us have to work at whether we’re a size two or a size twelve.

My Fitness Routine

I shared my routine here and while I’m not making wild changes for our wedding I’ve started to make a few tweaks to kick things up a notch in a healthy way. Here’s my current workout routine:

  • Pure Barre 3-4 times a week with Pure Empower (the cardio intense version) being 1-2 of those classes

Here’s what I’m going towards:

I tried BBG because I kept hearing about it and my friend Bailey finally pushed me over the edge! It’s the perfect workout when I travel because I can literally take it with me anywhere. And even though it’s intense it’s a mere 28 minutes which is the BEST thing ever. While BBG is incredibly practical when I’m gone, it’ll never replace Pure Barre for me. Pure Barre Lake Norman has become more than just a place to workout- it’s a lively community of the sweetest most supportive girls.

Tips for Staying Motivated

Below are some strategies that have consistently helped over the last few years. They say fitness is 20% and diet is 80% so I’m including a little of both!

  1. “Lazy proof your fridge”. I’ve found that when I buy pre-cut cantaloupe or pineapple vs the whole fruit I’m 100x more likely to eat it. I don’t know what it is, but I’ll stare at that whole cantaloupe and dig into the pantry for crackers instead. However, if it’s pre-cut in my fridge I always go that route.
  2. “Budget” your workouts for the week. Every week I set a goal to work out at least four times between Sunday and Saturday. If I “overspend” (don’t work out) I know I need to catch up later in the week. Conversely, if I get 3 workouts in my Tuesday (this is rare!) I’m feeling pretty accomplished.
  3. Find a workout you like and stick to it. No matter what you pick it’ll be hard at first but if you get past the first 60-90 days you’ll start to find it become as much of a habit as your daily shower.
  4. Remember you aren’t competing with anyone but yourself…yesterday. This applies to so many areas of life! It’s easy to look around in a workout class and feel like it’s some sort of competition. Well gals, it IS a competition but the race is with you and only you. When I work out, I try to push myself beyond last week. If I’m activelycompeting with myself-and winning- it doesn’t matter what anyone else is doing.

    Terra you look great! Keep doing what you are doing and I totally understand where you are coming from that we all have something with our own body image that we are not happy about. I am the same way too! I love your hair and your workout outfit❤️
