Our little fam got back from Charleston last night. We ate at some great restaurants and stayed at a sweet hotel, but the best part was getting to spend lots of time with Ridge and Juliana. On weekends when we’re home it always feels like there’s so much to catch up on so it was nice to get away and focus on being together.
Charleston takes my breath away every time I visit- it’s just so beautiful! I feel like I’m taking photos wherever I go, but this time I wanted to make sure I captured memories of Ridge and Juliana, too.
Here’s my favorite:
top // jeans // lace up heels (on sale- these were so comfortable for walking Charleston) // earrings (on sale)
Juliana’s excitement this trip was around the pool. She’s obsessed with bathing suits, floaties and anything marine-related (maybe bc I lived in Hawaii half my pregnancy??). She also loved the blog shoots because she got to watch Disney Jr. on Ridge’s phone ;). Last year one of the biggest challenges with blogging was “navigating” how to take photos with Juliana. Over time though we’ve slowly developed a system that works. It looks something like this-
- Pre-shoot, make sure both our phones are fully charged. I prefer to take blog photos with the DSLR camera and Instagram photos with an iPhone, so it’s important to have not one but BOTH phones charged so Juliana can have one.
- Keep a stroller in BOTH our cars. One of the things I’ve learned about blogging is that getting good photos is SO much harder than it looks. In order to get the right shots I need to be really focused, so we strap Juliana into her stroller where we can see her and she’s safe from traffic.
- Start with a few “together” photos. I started this so Juliana would feel like a part of our photo shoots and love how it’s produced some of my favorite photos of us. Sometimes after this I’ll let Juliana have a “turn”, then I’ll explain it’s “mommy’s turn”. Before we did this, she wanted to be in every photo and I was torn due because of what I wanted from a creative perspective. With this little system, she feels included but still gets to practice “taking turns”.
Since we’re talking about shoots, here’s one of my favorites from the trip:
wrap skirt // espadrille wedges here and here (flat version here)
Wrap skirts are all over the place this Spring and I’m loving how easy they are- the key is to pair with a fitted tee or tank. I love how they double as the perfect beach cover up too!
I’m obsessed with this one for the ruffles and eyelets but linked a few other favorites below as well.
Love always,
Terra
