I hope you gals had a Merry Christmas! Juliana received soo many presents from our families but she loves them all so I told myself as long as she appreciates them it’s ok. I think it’s because I grew up without getting much for Christmas (my parents always tried to keep Christmas focused on Christ) that is feels like a lot to me. Anyway, it was beautiful day with all of Ridge’s family. Everytime we gather I feel lucky to have such wonderful in-laws to be.
Sweatshirt, also love this one // jeans (similar here and here) // layered necklace set // belt, similar for less here // sandals // bag- Louis Vuitton Croisette
The last time we visited my parents in NH my dad asked when I was going to give up those “ripped jeans”. I tried to rationalize “distressed denim” to him, but I don’t think I managed to sell him on it. Lol! (If you’re reading this Dad, I hate to disappoint but my ripped jeans aren’t going anywhere). As strange as it sounds though, distressed denim is a terrific way to amp up a casual outfit. Here are some other quick and easy strategies to elevate your casual looks:
Belt it. In the last year I’ve come to realize what a powerful accessory a good belt can be. I shared my waist-cinching journey here with a review of the belt I’m wearing in this outfit. It’s my favorite accessory I own! Gucci or not, a great belt will add instant polish to any casual look. I feel like this pink sweatshirt + white jeans would look totally different without the belt, don’t you think?
Layer yo’ necklaces. One necklace is the norm- it’s what people expect. But two or three? A few tastefully-layered necklaces is totally unexpected and instantly takes your fashion game up a few notches. The make-or-break trick though is pairing the right necklace lengths. There’s a great article on that here, but a faster/easier way to get the layered look is to purchase a pre-layered set. The one I’m wearing is from The Styled Collection– they have some of my favorite layered necklaces! Another one of my all-time favorite sets is this $19 one from Nordstrom. Sometimes I’ll layer it with this pendant because the lengths work together well.
Go for heels (if you can). Heels really dress up a look, but the tradeoff is the comfort factor. Whenever I wear heels for an exetended period of time I use this stuff and it really helps.
Search out details. This is where the distressed denim comes in– the rips and shreds add so much. I also love to find pieces like this pink blouson sleeve sweatshirt– it’s as comfortable as any basic sweatshirt but the sleeves make it about 1000x cuter. I love how I can lounge in it and feel cute around the house too.
Paint your pout. These photos aren’t the best example since I’m wearing a nude shade (MAC’s Viva Glam II), but a colorful lip will make you look totally put together in a couple seconds. I love how lipstick makes me look like I tried even on the days I didn’t have time.
Love always,
Terra
