While a big component of a great outfit is having the right closet staples, it can still be hard at times to feel “inspired” (at least for me!). After all, putting together pieces to create an overall “look” is a creative process and there are times when those juices just aren’t flowing…am I right?
Statement scarf // $19 long sleeve tee // Jeans // Belt (more affordable here and in black here) // Bag (larger size here) // Boots (similar)
Fortunately I’ve found out a little “hack” that works like a charm when I’m either not inspired or don’t have time to think about my outfit. The first thing I do is grab a sweater or tee + jeans that are both white or both black (this basic long sleeve tee comes in a bunch of colors and is incredibly soft and comfortable). Right off the bat, this monochromatic look can be kind of stark, but I promise it’s the best canvas! From here I add a belt (this belt is my favorite accessory, but I also like this dupe is in brown here or in black here). The belt breaks up the solid color and is a quick way to add a little sophistication to your look (plus, a good statement belt is designed to go with everything so you don’t have to worry about it coordinating). From here I throw on some sort of “statement”- it could be a scarf-turned-poncho such as here, a big statement necklace– or even a hat. Just make sure your statement piece has some color and/or pattern to it. Last, I opt for a pair of boots that’s a similar shade to my belt to tie the look together. Because you’re keeping your clothing simple, your statement piece will totally pop!
Anyway, that’s my go-to strategy for a great ‘fit when I don’t have time to think about it. Do you have any “outfit hacks”? If so do share with the rest of us gals in the comments below!
