Happy Tuesday loves! Juliana and I are back from Savannah and missing it already (ok…not sure about Juliana but I am! 😉 ) Even though I’ve lived in the South the last four years this was my first time visiting. I’ve been wanting to this and then it happened a college girlfriend was coming down from NYC to visit…it couldn’t have worked out better.
I’d been told Savannah is like a smaller version of Charleston and I was SO surprised to find how different it is. Like Charleston it’s a beautiful antebellum town in the South but the architecture, layout, character and overall vibe is unique. My favorite hallmarks are Savannah’s arching live oak trees draped in Spanish moss (they’re everywhere and so pretty!) and the gorgeous parks that adorn each city block.
Saturday and Sunday morning we visited some of the Savannah’s most popular spots, then Sunday afternoon wandered aimlessly around Bull Street and explored as we went. If you are considering a trip I definitely recommend doing this! The city is so rich in beauty and it’s a great way to discover hidden gems that don’t show up on a travel guide.
Favorite Things to Do & Places to See
- Visit Wormsloe Historic Site.
Necklace // Top (on sale for $15) // Sunglasses ($12 but my favorite)When visiting the Wormsloe Historic Site, you can either visit the main area free of charge or pay $10 to go down the road to the ruins of the original Wormsloe Plantation. Because we just visited the main area I can’t speak to the plantation itself, but from what I read the main area is the biggest draw. The Wormsloe Historic Site is about 15 minutes from historic Savannah and affords breathtaking views of the the famous tree-lined road that has appeared in so many movies. The Spanish moss-laden oaks evoke a feeling of eeriness while taking your breath away with their incredible beauty.
2. Check out the Olde Pink House on Abercorn Street (historic district).

After the Wormsloe Historic Site we spent the rest of the weekend in Savannah’s historic district and our first stop was The Olde Pink House on Abercorn Street. Built in 1771 for James Habersham Jr a prominent figure in the cotton industry, it’s now a restaurant and a Savannah icon reflecting some of the most beautiful colonial architecture.
3. Visit Alex Raskins Antiques. In addition to being the most interesting antique store, Alex Raskins Antiques has some of the coolest exterior architecture…it’s even worth visiting for that alone.
4. Catch the sunset along River Street. We did this Saturday and it was SO pretty! River Street is a crickety stairway down from the rest of the historic district and proffers a darling cobblestone street lined with local shops (including the famous River Street Sweets) on one side and the Savannah River on the other. Drinking in the sunset and watching steamboats pass to strains of my favorite tunes from the street musicians was the perfect way to end the day.
5. Stroll through Forsyth Park. Each block of historic Savannah has a beautiful little park called a “square”. While they all have the same feel, each is unique. I loved how each park had a plaque to educate about its historic significance. I’m SO curious how the parks came into being in the first place. (Any Savannah history buffs out there? I’m seriously dying of curiosity!)
The “crown jewel” is Forsyth Park at the southern end of the historic district. I think the draw is the huge fountain…so so picturesque!
6. Wander up, down, and around Bull Street. This was my favorite part of the trip! Sunday afternoon we wandered through the historic district, loosely following Bull Street from Bay Street up to Forsyth Park. The architecture is so intricate and varied and we stumbled across a few of the most adorable restaurants…and a pub that looked like it was straight out of England.
We were only in Savannah for two days but I can’t wait to go back. Have you been to Savannah? What did you like the most, and would you go back?
