Five Jackets Every Girl Needs

We made it to Wednesday! Happy Hump Day! I flew into Boston yesterday for a meeting this morning but I was home by dinner to Ridge and Juliana, so that made me very happy. It was a great trip because it was one of those new item presentation meetings where the stars aligned between what the customer wanted and what we had to offer. Today, I was presenting Turkey Hill’s All Natural ice cream which I absolutely love, so it made the selling part easy. Another great aspect of the trip: I got to see my mom and dad in NH last night (where I grew up, and where they live). I don’t get to sleep in my own bed on a work trip, so it was nice to sleep in the bedroom I grew up in!

On the trip I wore this jacket  that I got the other week. I’m not even kidding when I say this jacket is pure gold: thick genuine suede, a gorgeous style that would flatter anybody, and all for under $200. I’m obsessed. Because this style sold so well, Blank NYC just added more colors, and now there are 8 total. I have found myself wearing this jacket nonstop since I got it and find the “coffee bean” color goes with everything.

Realizing how versatile this jacket is, I started thinking about other jackets that are equally adaptable and add punch to whatever you’re wearing. I had in my head a list of five, then did research online to see what others were saying about the types of jackets every girl needs. It turns out my five are the five that showed up in just about every list! (Some lists had additional ones, which I felt there were more personal to your lifestyle, such as an evening jacket). Anyway, here are the five jackets that, if you have in your closet, will open up new outfit doors (no pun intended!):

  1. The leather jacket. Ok, I’ve talked about this a lot already! For a brown jacket, my pick is the Blank NYC one I’m wearing here; for a black leather jacket, I own this one and love it. I recommend black or brown simply for versatility, and to find a style that you personally love.
  2. The denim jacket. Chances are you already own this style. This is such a huge wardrobe staple that looks adorable with skirts, dresses, tops, dressed up or down, etc. If you don’t have one, I recommend trying on several and finding one that looks great on your frame.
  3. The blazer. This is one of those pieces that instantly elevates whatever you are wearing. I love pairing my black blazer with distressed denim on the weekend, but it’s the same one I also wear to customer appointments over business attire.
  4. The utility jacket. This jacket is perfect for throwing over your outfit to run errands and gives any casual look instant chic. I talk about how to wear a utility jacket here. I own this utility jacket and love how it fits because it isn’t too boxy, but I know a few gals who have this more budget friendly version (on sale for $41!) and love it. Utility jackets are something you have to try on in person because the fit can be a little tricky due to the boxy style so many of them sport.
  5. The classic trench coat. I have seen a lot of trench coats on fashion blogs as well as Instagram lately and I love how this style of jacket adds a dimension of sophistication to any look. A classic trench coat in a neutral color will never, ever go out of style. This is actually a jacket I don’t yet own but I’ve identified as a “hole” in my wardrobe I want to fill, so if you have any recommendation, send ’em over!

Ok, so there is one more “bonus” style I thought I’d add because it’s so darn trendy at the moment: the bomber jacket. The reason I didn’t list it above though is because I think it’s more of a trend than a classic style jacket that you can invest in and keep forever. Also, I think that bomber jackets are bit more specific with the physiques they look best on, whereas the above five groups are not. Personally, I have tried many bombers and just can’t find one that I think looks flattering on me or goes with my personal style.

I hope you have a wonderful rest of your week, and let me know in the comments if there are jackets you would add to the above! Thank you so much for reading this post and visiting Fifteen Minutes to Flawless; it means so much to me!

XO,
Terra
