Work Wear Style

Happy Thanksgiving week ya’ll! Here’s to a short work week. ๐Ÿ™‚ I feel each day gets a little calmer as we get closer to Thursday–and I love it. Since it is still the work week I wanted to mix things up and do a post about work wear style. Most fashion blogs seem to feature casual styles or runway-worthy looks, neither of which can be worn to a “typical” office environment. Because I work from my home office 3-4 days a week and travel for meetings the balance, I end up wearing (and so featuring) lots of casual outfits. Still, most weeks there’s at least one day I need to kick things into high gear for meetings–and I know for a lot of you reading this, business or business casual is an everyday affair.

I should start by saying I realize my laptop bag is not that trendy ;). Maybe I’ll invest in a chic tote down the road, but for now this is what I have to work with (literally). When it comes to work wear, I find it’s a little harder to put really cute outfits together. All industries and office environments are slightly different with dress codes–and then of course there’s taking into account your level in the organization and the level you are hoping to achieve. I’ve always heard “dress for the position you want, not the one you have” and I try to follow that as much as possible. My industry, food sales and marketing, tends to be pretty conservative, but with a little effort I’m still able to channel my personal style and mix in some fun trends.

One of the trends I’ve been loving lately is draped blazers, jackets, and cardigans. A correct drape is super flattering! Instead of going for a traditional black blazer, I picked white instead to make for a more interesting look. Because this blazer is loose fitting I paired it with a fitted skirt; I love the texture of this tweed skirt! The black and white skirt also seemed like the perfect center between the black tights and top and white blazer. And with Winter just a few weeks away, this color scheme seemed season-appropriate.

When it comes to heels, I’m a firm believer in quality–especially ones you’re in all day for work. Cole Haan is my absolute favorite brand for work wear heels…the Cole Haan’s I’m wearing here my wonderful co-worker actually found for $20 at a consignment store (thanks Jeanmarie!).

That’s it for tonight! I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving and a much-deserved break!

XO, Terra
