Fringe Fashion to Country Chic

One of my favorite pastimes is going to country concerts. Growing up in a small town in NH I grew up on country music and it’s stuck with me–even in Hawaii with only one (suspect) country station on the radio! Ironically, as much as I love country music it would be a stretch to say that I am a country girl. I left my tiny town in NH when I was 18 and moved to New York for college. When I graduated, I moved to the San Francisco area and lived there for four years before moving to Honolulu, Hawaii. After two years in Hawaii, work transferred me to Charlotte where I have been living for the last three years. Never once in my adult life did I live in the country– or anywhere that remotely resembled it. As a result I am an amalgamation of my country upbringing and urban/suburban adult life. My taste in music reflects my roots but my taste in fashion is more worldly.

Because of this I’ve struggled with what to wear to my beloved concerts: should I go all out with cowboy boots/braids/a plaid shirt–even though it’s so not my style? Or wear something that’s more “me” but out of place? Of course this isn’t a major dilemma, but I still did a happy dance when I figured out what to wear to the next concert–and how to integrate a little country into my own personal style ๐Ÿ™‚

FullSizeRenderI picked up this skirt a few months ago for its softness + amazing fit and because I love the fringe trend that’s so big in fashion right now. The brand, FIFTEEN TWENTY, is Los Angeles-based and strikes the perfect balance between feminine and edgy. In the past I’ve paired it with tees or tanks to dress up a comfortable, casual look– but just realized it could be paired with an oversized denim shirt and booties for the perfect country chic.

IMG_5288I got the denim shirt a few years’ back from Express, but this one is very similar (side note: EVERYTHING at Express is 40% off right now for their Labor Day sale!). I love lighter denim tops because I find they match with a lot more things than their darker wash counterparts. Here the fit, texture and color are the perfect contrast to the fringed mini.

IMG_5291 To give this outfit a balanced look, I opted for simple black booties. I love the slits that add interest in the front and make them easy to dress up or down…another one of my favorites from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale! Finally, this crossbody bag ties the look together. I love the braid + fringe detail on the bottom and the design reminds me of a Chloe bag but at a tiny fraction of the price ๐Ÿ™‚

That’s it for tonight! Shop my look below and let me know what you think. Follow me on Instagram (fifteenminutestoflawless) for more style snaps and sale updates for my favorite retailers!
