Graphic tees and tops are hot right now. Have you wanted to try this trend but aren’t sure how to chose and how to style a graphic tee? This trend can be fun, but it involves a little thought. In college it was simple: (1) buy a funny graphic tee and (2) wear said tee. Once you hit north of 25 though, what are the rules? I don’t believe in lots of rules for fashion, but I do like to reflect my style in a way that’s appropriate for where I am in life.
Enter the graphic tee dilemma. Lately I’ve seen tons of graphics on wine, brunch and sleep–some have just a little too much attitude for me (“Drinking is my Cardio”, “Resting Brunch Face”, or “Tequila, Tacos & Naps” anyone?). I’m not judging if this is your flare, but it’s just a little much for yours truly, which brings me to step 1:
- Choosing your graphic top. What the shirt says is important, and ideally you want to pick a word/phrase that resonates with you. Two of my favorite sites for graphic tops are Revolve and Sincerely Jules. In addition to picking text you feel good about, make sure you like the font, shirt color, and overall style. If you think it’s something you’re going to wear a lot, factor in quality as well. When browsing graphic tops, this one I’m wearing spoke to me. I adored the color, its slightly over-sized fit, retro font, and, of course, the text. Having a word in another language felt just a little more sophisticated.
2. Once you’ve picked your graphic top you’ll want to style it. Because I loved this pink number so much I opted not to layer it, as I often do to dress up a graphic top. Instead, I dressed it up by adding a necklace, rose-colored shades, wedge sandals, and a coordinating charm for my bag. Details like this add a little more sophistication to the look while still keeping it casual.
Here are some of my other favorite ways to dress up a graphic top:
- Pair with statement heels or a statement necklace (or both). This makes for a really cool contrast.
- Layer with a denim jacket, blazer, chambray shirt, or leather jacket. This will tone it down and dress it up.

And there you have it!
Now for the big question…who dragged their husband/fiancé/boyfriend/date to see Beauty and the Beast this weekend? We would have seen it except Ridge had to work Saturday-Sunday and I had a day trip to Pennsylvania today (about to keel over from exhaustion but had to get this post out!). Anyway, we’re going tomorrow and I’m so excited! Beauty and the Beast was my favorite Disney film and I feel like a kid all over again. Now if only I had a yellow dress…Ironically, I just ordered one I can’t wait to show you guys! And no, it’s not a ballgown ;).
XO,
Terra
